New $1 Billion Dollar Project to Begin in Reno, NV

The Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada, has unveiled plans for a monumental private capital investment, marking a historic milestone for the city. This substantial funding injection, spread over the next decade, aims to transform the 140-acre property into a multi-faceted entertainment hub.

The ambitious $1 billion investment will encompass a diverse range of developments, including the construction of a state-of-the-art 10,000-seat sports arena, a golf facility, and the creation of 300 waterfront residential units. Additionally, there is a possibility of evaluating an 800-room hotel tower for the site.

The sports arena is slated to be the focal point of this transformative project, spanning approximately 300,000 square feet upon completion. It is designed to feature luxurious suites and premium hospitality clubs. Grand Sierra Resort is considering a partnership with the Nevada men's basketball team to make the arena their home, with plans to host concerts and other sporting events as well, thereby making it the largest facility of its kind in Reno.

In addition to the arena, the development blueprint includes an enticing entertainment district featuring a picturesque promenade and captivating water shows akin to the iconic Bellagio in Las Vegas. This undertaking is anticipated to significantly boost tourism in Reno, attracting visitors from across the country for special events and concerts.

The project's potential to elevate Reno's tourism industry has garnered support from other hotel operators in the city. Recognizing the opportunity, these operators anticipate higher occupancies as a result of the project's completion. This will also result in more jobs in the Reno Service area.

To accommodate the anticipated surge in travelers, the Grand Sierra Resort is contemplating the construction of a new hotel tower. This tower, however, remains a subject of evaluation and will be considered for feasibility once other elements of the project are near completion, which is expected to be in approximately six or more years. If greenlit, it will be the final phase of this extensive endeavor.

The entire project is projected to span nearly a decade in duration. Gensler, an esteemed architecture and planning firm, is currently engaged in the initial stages of the project, with groundbreaking expected to officially commence in the fall of 2024.
